They didn’t show up to the rental pick up location and left us there.

Car was not ready for pickup. The staff continually told us it would be 20 minutes and it was hours.

Small car for a lot of money, not worth the value at all. As I was sitting in the car with my doors closed someone opened the door into my door and caused the damage. Europcar wanted to charge me for other person’s fault!

I liked the convenience of the location for renting a car while in port on a cruise ship. Very easy. It was a little expensive for a one day rental.

The folks at the registration desks were super kind and helpful. When the original car we rented in Reykjavik had engine troubles along our journey - they provided a replacement and upgraded car for us in Akuyreri. Hassle free pick-ups and drop-offs.
Out of the way location, we returned the car after the office was closed and had a really hard time getting a ride back to our cruise ship. Had to walk 10 minutes to a nearby hotel to catch a taxi.

Driving the Tesla was a great experience and well worth it. My experience would have been even better if I known that a shuttle from my hotel was available. I had to pay for a taxi.

Too bad we didn't know there was a pick up service at the cruise terminal. Expensive, like everything else in Iceland. Staff was very friendly.

Really friendly staff. Easy to pick up the car. The car worked well. Pumping gas in Iceland (or at least, figuring out how to pay for it) was a little confusing from an American perspective!
Great rental experience! Affordable, easy, and very attentive staff at the airport. Car was nice and perfect for what I needed. My tire pressure light went on during my road trip and I emailed for assistance; didn't get a response for a couple of days, but I think I emailed the wrong address? Anyway I was able to fill the tires with air at a roadside gas station, no problem. I would definitely rent from Budget again!

The vehicle was very good. However, after driving it for about an hour or so, we started detecting a slight odor. That odor started getting worse as time went on and by the time we returned it, we couldn't wait to get out of the car it reeked so much, like there was a dead fish lodged somewhere. We had looked all over and couldn't find the source but it was terrible. I told the agent when we returned the car and he just offered to give us an upgrade the next time we picked up a car there, like never!

The line to pick up the car that I had already paid for was an hour, and then when we got to the desk they said that it would be another 1 - 2 hours before they had the car ready. Walked over to National and there was no line at the desk and they had a car for me in 5 minutes. At least Budget gave me a refund on my payment.
I had to put on a spare tire due to faulty tire. The fleet manager never called back.

The rental office is very close to the airport, but the directions that were emailed to me were not good. No one inside the airport could tell me where you were at. We ended up having a cab drive us to the location we were we mailed only to find out that you were back behind the airport in an office connected to a hotel. That little ride cost me $30.00. But the car was great, the staff were efficient, and the car was big enough to carry 3 people and two weeks worth of luggage. The price was the lowest we found. We will rent from you folks again.

The car was older, beat up, and dirty. But on the flip-side, you didn’t have to worry about where you took it.
Car was a Citroen, which I had never driven before. The pickup was a disaster. I arrived 45 mins early and asked if I could pick up then. The person on desk said they were cleaning it and it would be a few minutes. Over an hour later (25 minutes AFTER our designated pickup time) it was ready. They gave me an extra hour as compensation, big deal!! Car accelerated ok, but when it got to about 80 or 90 kmh it felt like alignment was out or a wheel was damaged. I didn't tell them this on return, as I was worried they would think I did it. Dropoff was smooth, so at least thanks for that small mercy. Quite the contrast to our experience earlier in our trip with Hertz!

Overall okay. Pick up was fast and easy. Drop off was difficult finding a gas station that was open and would take our Visa card. We also spent a lot of time waiting to get the ride to the airport

Be prepared to decide if you want rock chip insurance or not. It's a hard sell and spendy at 15 euros a day. We only rented for a few days and didn't travel all around the island so decided to risk it, but I worried the entire time! Also, you have to pay 5 Euros a day for an extra driver, which seemed worth it to me, but should have been included if you carry the same insurance. You need to take a shuttle from airport to Thrifty and it's really difficult to figure out where to find this, which was very very frustrating. There are no signs in the airport telling you where Thrifty is and it is not with the other car rental agencies as you would expect. You are to meet near a sign called the Meeting Place and a driver comes inside the airport to lead you to the shuttle. I don't know how you call them to tell them you are there though - no phone. Fortunately one other traveler was able to call them. None of this information is written on your confirmation of rental. Also, long lines to pick up as well as drop off the car. I wouldn't use them again.

We were told that someone would come in through the rotating doors at the meeting point. We waited for quite a while then happened to spot a Thrifty van behind us on the Iceland Air check in side. By the time we got to the bus, it only had one seat left (as other customers had obviously been given slightly different instructions and although they arrived at the meeting point after us, knew where to look.

It’s sucked. The guy was rude at check in, we got charged double from what I was quoted. AND I still, 4 days after dropping off, don’t have a finalized bill.

I would never rent a car from Dollar in Iceland again. I would urge others not to rent from them either. First, it was extremely difficult to find their location. Unlike most of the other car rental companies, they do not have an office inside the airport. It took extra time to find out that their office requires a shuttle that is 10 mins away. However, the worst part is that there is no Dollar return at the airport either. We spent 20 mins looking for Dollar's return. When we finally found it, we realized their office was closed, which meant there was no shuttle back to the airport. My husband and 2 other families had to split an Uber to get back to the airport. Dollar never explained how to return the car nor that the office wouldn't be open early in the morning for returns. It was a huge hassle! I will not rent from Dollar again.

I had rented a car for the incorrect dates, but immediately attempted to change the dates and the website would not allow me to do so. I attempted to call, but there was no answer. I emailed, but got no response. As a last resort, canceled the reservation on the website, but it did not list as canceled, until, eventually, it did say it was cancelled, but charged me the entire cost of the rental as a ‘cancellation fee.’ I would like my money back.

The car was exactly what we ordered so we were very happy with that. The only issue was how long we had to wait in line to rent. They did not have that many people at the Reykjavik airport pickup to help. Other than that it was a great experience!

Pick up was a bit confusing, mostly because I misread the email. Would be awesome if there were signs for dollar somewhere in the airport, even if that sign just said to press the pickup button.
