Completely ruined start of our vacation. I had a reservation and even checked in online with Avis before our flight, supposedly securing the rental with my credit card. When we landed at midnight and went to the car rental shuttle the buss pulled up and a man saying he was the manager met us at the door saying there was no reason to go to their lot, be ause corporate had rerouted their cars and they had no cars at all on their lot. He said they would be restocked with cars by 4am and we could come by after that. We ended up paying for an extra night in a hotel (since we already had paid for the one we couldn't get to) and then getting a car in the morning, which made us miss half a day of our vacation. When we got there in the morning there was a huge lot full of cars. I don't believe for a second that they all showed up that morning at 4am. I certainly will be going elsewhere to get a car from now on if that is how they operate.

Line was way too long - would have taken well over an hour- so we had to bail and Uber to our destination. Heard the same from others who have had the same problems at RDU Avis. Won’t go back.

Helpful to know where the nearest gas station to the airport was located. I had to go back 3 miles to gas up.
