Travelling is about exploring different cultures, meeting new faces and sharing experiences. But this is only possible if people around the world are open and welcoming to other people. With this in mind, we created two competitions, both of which focused on sharing one’s world with others.
After many months worth of videos and imagery spanning thousands of entries from every corner of the earth, our Welcome To My World photo and video competitions have come to an end.
We are thrilled to present our two winning videos and the two winning images, along with some of the other entries that touched us profoundly.
The winning videos
Andrés Mondragón Padilla’s endearing video of Havana, Cuba gave us a peek into the country’s vivid, rhythmic everyday life – a world apart from many of our own familiar surroundings. In André’s words, “my trip to Cuba was a trip that changed my life.”
Kamil Faizulin teleported us to India with this exciting video of his trip there. Such was its intimacy, in many ways, it felt like we were right there with Kamil as he “mounted a scooter for the first time, toured through small villages and slept in the jungle among wild animals.” India made an impression on Kamil and this video made an impression on us.
The winning photos
Katernia Leonova’s shot of Paris gave us a different picture of the city that many know mostly through its iconic landmarks and sites. This is an image that triggered our curiosity and, with its inviting air of mystery, tickled our wanderlust.
Terhi Hytönen took us a to chilly, wintry Helsinki with this witty depiction of sauna life, etched against a backdrop of thick snow and ice. We can only imagine how good the sauna must feel after a bold foray into the freezing temperatures.
